CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

The NAACP is a non-partisan organization allowing for each platform to be represented. We adhere to and look to see our National agenda for positive change implemented through elected officials.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE
The Peekskill NAACP has actively and effectively participated in the Peekskill Police Task Force. This task force was part of Executive Order 203 under the Cuomo Administration. Additionally, The branch submitted the first Peekskill CCRB that is currently being implemented.

EDUCATION
As strong advocates for our youth, the Peekskill NAACP has an MOU with the PCSD. This MOU allows us to partner with the school district on DEI and other equity-advocacy matters. In addition, we continue to fight for non-disparities in education and during the pandemic, we were major contributors and participatory facilitators in making sure our youth had access to tablets and wifi.
5
HEALTH
The Health committee continues to bring awareness to our community through workshops and presentations. Maternal mortality rates, sickle cell, diabetes and other health risks to a high percentage of Black and brown people are major focal points being discussed and researched to end the inequity and injustice of these health disparities.
4
ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
The Peekskill NAACP partners with the Regeneration farm to ensure we advocate for healthy eating. Peekskill is the dumping ground for all of Westchester through the Wheelabrator facility. We are actively communicating with this facility to ensure they have plans to dismantle the facility and/or enable the idea of composting through our county. In addition, we are monitoring the dismantling of Indian Point which may be a huge health risk to all.
6
ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
The Economic Empowerment committee continues to bring awareness to our community through workshops and presentations. We are looking to build Black owned businesses and not sustain poor conditions. We continue to monitor big business (absence and addition) and their effect on our community.
